especially for Outing Club Advisors and Student Leaders
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Wilderness First Aid is a two-day introduction to general medical concepts and basic life support skills. It is targeted to the outdoor enthusiast on day trips or short adventures. This is a nationally-recognized certification good for 3 years which includes CPR/AED training. Student leaders between 16-18 years old are most welcome as well – we only need to have a parent/guardian sign the pre-course indemnity agreement. The cost includes a field guide, patient assessment guidebook, and the Outward Bound WFA text. Successful participants will receive a certification card. The course is being taught by Eric Duffy who is an RN, Wilderness EMT, Registered Maine Guide, Wilderness Medical Associates Lead Instructor, T3 board member, experienced outdoorsman, and all around great guy who will make this course fun and engaging!
Teens To Trails has a long-standing relationship with both the Chewonki Foundation (who has generously donated space for participants on their campus) & Wilderness Medical Associates (an industry leader in their field and a great supporter of high school Outing Clubs).
Housing is available in Chewonki's wood stove heated yurts for an additional cost of $25/night (minors must be accompanied by an adult). Meals will not be provided, but there are grocery stores and restaurants in easy proximity to Chewonki.
Space is limited.
If the cost of this course is still prohibitive, please let us know. We would like everyone interested in this course to be able to participate and are seeking grant money in order to be able to provide a limited number of scholarships.
Thank you all for a great course and keep your eyes out for more safety and skills workshops to come!
