Meet Our Board

Shawn Carlson - Shawn is a Science teacher at Boothbay Region High School. He was instrumental in getting Outing Clubs started at three different high schools in Maine where he took on a leadership role in organizing and leading Club outings. He currently lives in Wiscasset with his family and enjoys hiking, climbing, reading, and baseball. Shawn earned his Masters Degree in Chemistry from the Univ. of California, Berkeley. He obtained his BS in Forestry and Chemistry from the Univ. of Maine, Orono.
Eric Duffy - Eric is Lead Instructor for Wilderness Medical Associates in Portland. He is a Wilderness and State of Maine EMT-B, Registered Maine Guide (Rec+SK), MA As an instructor with Wilderness Medical Associates since 2000, Eric actively teaches multi-day classes in wilderness medicine for schools and outfitters throughout Maine. He developed the outdoor education program at Hebron Academy into a daily, year-round alternative to competitive athletics, and for three seasons coordinated the sea kayaking school at L.L.Bean. Eric also works seasonally as an emergency medical technician and paddling guide.
Kelley Duffy - Kelley is a social studies teacher at Wiscasset High School & has taught at The Chewonki Foundation's Maine Coast Semester. She has been an Outing Club Advisor at Wiscasst High School. Kelley is also a volunteer EMT in the town of Bremen, and a Wilderness First Responder. Kelley is an avid hiker and traveler and spent several years living and working overseas before settling down in Maine with her husband, Eric. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Swarthmore College and is currently completing a Master's Degree in Public Policy through USM's Muskie School.
Bill Hanson - Bill is Senior Biologist for Florida Power Light Energy Maine Hydro LLC conducting environmental impact studies around hydro facilities in Maine & New Hampshire. Studies include fisheries, wetlands, wildlife & archeology. Bill is a Maine Raft Guide, Wilderness First Responder and has SCUBA, CPR and Maine teacher certifications.
Linda Hanson - Linda has over 25 years experience as a Physical Education & Health teacher and getting young people active outdoors. She has organized and lead numerous after-school Outdoor Recreation Club activities. Most recently, she was instrumental in developing 'family' outdoor activities in kayaking, snowshoeing and hiking. She lives in Wiscasset and enjoys her family, teaching, and the outdoors. Linda obtained her degree in Physical Education from the University of Maine, Orono.
Ralph Keyes - Ralph teaches Science at Wiscasset High School, where he serves as co-advisor to the Wiscasset Outing Club. His love for outdoor life sports started when two of his junior high school teachers invited him to participate in their outing club and he climbed his first four-thousand footer. He recently completed his list of New Hampshire four-thousand footers, the majority of which he climbed with his daughters, and he's ready to do them again. Ralph and his family live in Brunswick.
Jeff Riddle - Jeff teaches Earth Science, Outdoor Adventure, and Rock Climbing at Windham High School. He advises the Windham Outing Club (WOC) and is the head coach for Windham’s Varsity Cross-Country and Track & Field Teams. Jeff is a registered Maine Sea Kayaking Guide and has worked 9 seasons for Seaspray Kayaking. He graduated from Penn State University in the Fall of 1995 and migrated to Maine to work for The Chewonki Foundation. While at Penn State, Jeff worked for Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center and The Conservation Leadership Schools, both affiliated with the University. Jeff has worked to educate people both in rehabilitating wildlife and with non-releasable wildlife. He is committed to educating others in both the indoor and outdoor classrooms.
Rob Rowse - Rob is a graduate of Hampshire College with a degree in Solar Energy. He is an avid Ultimate Frisbee player, having competed in the 1976 World Frisbee Championships and again in the 1998 and 1999 National Ultimate Championships. Rob ran his own company for 15 years developing computer-aided design (CAD) software, training courseware, and providing CAD training to architectural and engineering firms. He enjoys working with kids, and coaches x-country skiing and Ultimate. He lives with his wife and three daughters in Falmouth.
Nick Sampson - Nick directs the Safety & Wellness program at L.L.Bean & lives with his family in Yarmouth.
Deb Sondergaard - Deb loves the outdoors and can often be found creating or maintaining trails on the 800-acre Schmid Preserve in the town of Edgecomb where she lives.
Cory Snow - Cory is a teacher and the Outing Club Advisor at South Portland High School. As Race Director for our biennial T3 Maine Adventure Race, he has introduced us to the outdoor sport of "rogaining" so popular in New Zealand where he spent a sabbatical with his family. They now reside in Portland.
