Trip Ideas from Outing Club Advisors and Students

These trips have been recommended by our affiliate Outing Club advisors and students. T3 and our staff have not researched or been on any of these trips for Outing Club purposes nor do we specifically endorse any one. The list is meant to serve as inspiration to you with the expectation that you will do further research into the details of the trip and its appropriateness for your group.


Trip Ideas/Locations:

  • Aroostook State Park outside of Presque Isle Echo lake and Quaggy Joe
  • Full moon hike  Beach is nice for rising moon– get permission from State Park where applicable
  • Bowdoin's Merritt Island - campsite on island near Bath. It has low tide walkable access or you can canoe around. Lots of good sitings of horseshoe crabs, jellies, etc. Call Bowdoin's Outing Club for more information. We found that we could use it if another group wasn't already booked. Also a Maine Island Trail Association Island
  • Libby Hill Forest Recreation Area - Gray
  • Mt. Blue State Park -Sledding, or ski in and snowshoe up
  • Mt Tom near Fryburg, day hike
  • Saco River
  • Jockey Cap – short hike near Fryburg
  • Kineo on Moosehead Lake
  • Bald Mountain near Rangeley
  • Tumbledown Mountain near Rangeley, recommended by many! Nice to swim at top when weather is nice.
  • Goose Eye Mountain
  • Bigelow Range- Outside of Carrabassett Valley/ Stratton
  • Maine Huts and Trails system -between Carrabassett Valley and the Forks. Hiking, Mountain biking and cross country skiing
  • Maiden Cliffs/ Camden Hills in Camden - easier hiking
  • Baxter State Park
  • Acadia National Park
  • Camden Snow Bowl - winter trip, tubing, tobogganing, & snowshoe/XC ski
  • International coastal cleanup week - afternoon cleaning up a beach or park (in Sept, so good club intro & service component)
  • Downeast canoe routes from Ellsworth to Vanceboro.
  • “Our club has a tradition of hiking Pleasant Mountain in Bridgton each fall. It's a nice bonding experience and a rite of passage to climb the fire tower.” – Yarmouth OC
  • Tuckerman’s Ravine skiing and sledding – Mt Washington in the White Mountains, NH
  • Your local land trust or conservation land
  • Rafting on the Kennebec, Dead or Penobscot Rivers


Overnight Specific:

  • Allagash Canoe Trip - 3 to 10 night trips possible. Northern Maine
  • Isle Au Haut with Old Quarry Adventures out of Stonington
  • Overnight mountain biking trip with Backcountry Excursions and Community Bike Center. Western Maine.
  • AMC’s Lonesome Lake Huts in Franconia NH. Snowshoe in - $25/head. Kitchen and cooking gear available for use
  • AMC’s Double head hut is $20 for 8 people – more backcountry. White Mountain National Forest
  • Hidden Valley Nature Center Cabins and Yurts. Jeffferson, ME
  • Borestone Mountain Sanctuary and Cabins outside of Monson- owned by Maine Audubon
  • Chewonki's Big Eddy Campground on the West Branch of the Penobscot, north of Millinocket
  • Moose River – river goes in a loop so you can end where you started. Outside of Jackman
